Description
Classic Pandoro wrapped i Rustici
Everything that comes from an oven brings back to mind cakes, tarts, those desserts that grandmother and mother made from simple but genuine ingredients. The yeast, the eggs, the flour, the sugar, the butter: all ready to be mixed on that cold marble table, also incredibly warm with a wholly domestic magic.
There are those who trace them back to Austria of the Habsburg Empire; in fact, it would have been the pastry chefs of the Royal House of Vienna who prepared the "ancestor" of pandoro, referring to the "Vienna bread", a variant of the French brioche dough. Others argue, however, that it originates from the Venetian Republic of the Renaissance, when rich patrician families ate a dessert called "pan de oro" entirely covered with thin pure gold leaves. However, the most certain ancestry seems to be those that lead it back to the "nadalin", a star-shaped dessert, which Veronese families traditionally prepared at Christmas at the end of the 19th century.
