Finished in Caribbean Pot Still Rum casks Inspired by the vibrant mix of rhythms at the beating heart of calypso, our Malt Master sought to refine this vivid expression of Oban in casks that have previously held Caribbean Pot Still rum. The vibrant combination evokes unexpected notes of mango and sugar cane, which build on Oban itself a perfect fusion with whiskey. A golden touch announces the summer sun while a fresh sea breeze aroma, combined with citric notes and enriched with tropical fruit and spices, quickly takes us to images of carnival.

These Special Releases are all in limited edition and with peculiar characteristics, revealing new aspects of the distilleries of origin with peculiar refinements and higher alcohol content. In this case Oban 11 Year Old Special Release 2023 The Soul of Calypso has a final refinement in barrels that have contained Pot Still Caribbean rum, a rather rare event for Oban, a distillery that has always defended tradition and with very few variations on the classic branded malt Oban.

Tasting Notes

A brilliant, vivid Oban, obtained from the fusion between the typical style of Highland and Island whiskies mixed with the passion and colors of Caribbean rum.

Appearance: Bright

Nose: Mild and fresh, the main notes are maritime, iodine, with a sweeter and more tropical background, mango and lemon

Body: Medium

Palate: An exceptional smooth impact introduces the sweetest parts, caramelized lemon, then leaving room for the typical characteristics of the distillery with an important spicy part. A drop of water opens the distillate, leaving notes reminiscent of essential oils

Finish: Fairly short, spicy and enveloping, slightly sweet with a deeper aftertaste if diluted with water.
