The original family recipe

Jack Daniel was famous for his refined tastes. No detail mattered more than the composition of the fermentation mixture, the "mash", a delicate blend of grains that gives our whiskey its distinctive flavour. Jack Daniel settled on a well thought out recipe – 80% corn, 12% barley and 8% rye – which is the same one we still use today.

It's hard to imagine something more natural

Every bottle of Jack Daniel's sold anywhere in the world is made from water from Cave Spring Hollow, a cave purchased by Jack Daniel because of its ultra-pure water. The layers of limestone give the richness of minerals that form the character of Jack Daniel's. More importantly, limescale removes the iron contained in the water. Sure iron has its uses, but for whiskey makers it's the worst.

Every drop rewards every effort

Once distilled at 70 degrees, clear, unaged whiskey has a very challenging journey ahead. Drop by drop it must flow through the coal we have prepared, going down only by the force of gravity and nothing else. This journey takes about a week and at the end the whiskey is transformed.

It's ready when it's ready

To this day, we believe our whiskey is only ready for bottling when its flavor tells us so. We employ a team of expert tasters who, by sampling each cask, are able to identify every nuance of flavor and character which allows them to judge whether the whiskey is ready for bottling.
